How do you spot genuine Kuro Kosen? 6 checks before you buy in Malaysia (QR code)

Short answer: The fastest way to check ZENSO Kuro Kosen is to scan the anti-counterfeit QR code on the box when it arrives. Before you buy, choose a distributor who can show proof of authorisation. When it arrives, check the seal, the expiry date, the name, and that both flavours are inside. Most listings on Shopee, Lazada or Carousell are third-party resellers outside the authorised channel, and problems are hard to trace.

Heads-up: Wellous has issued a notice asking customers not to buy on Shopee, Lazada, Carousell or other third-party platforms. Many listings there are fake, plenty of people only find out after buying, and some sellers pretend to be us.

What genuine stock looks like

6 checks before you buy

1. Scan the QR code first

When your parcel arrives, scan the QR code on the box first. If it doesn't verify, or there's no QR code, don't open it. Contact the seller straight away.

2. Can the seller show proof of authorisation?

Just ask. An authorised distributor can show it and won't mind. That goes for us too, so feel free to ask.

3. Is the price unreasonably low?

Much cheaper than normal, with lines like "last few boxes" or "warehouse clearance"? Ask where it came from and when it expires. If the seller can't say, don't take the risk.

4. Is the box factory-sealed?

Check the seal hasn't been opened or re-stuck. Loose sachets sold a few at a time are even harder to trace. Recording yourself opening the parcel makes any problem easier to sort out.

5. Is the expiry date clear?

The date should be printed clearly, not scratched off or covered by a sticker. If it is close to expiry, ask before you order.

6. Open it and check the flavours

Every genuine box has both Prune and White Peach, 15 sachets each, with no flavour to choose when you order. If there's only one flavour, or the count is wrong, ask before you use it.

Why we don't recommend buying on Shopee, Lazada or Carousell

Most listings on Shopee, Lazada or Carousell are third-party resellers outside the authorised channel. The usual problems: unclear origin, unknown storage (Malaysian heat in a warehouse or a parked car can affect the product), nobody responsible if something goes wrong, and no money-back guarantee.

Buying from an authorised distributor gets you a factory-sealed box, QR verification, advisor follow-up and the 30-day money-back guarantee.

After your parcel arrives

• Check the box and scan the code before opening.
• Store it somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight. Don't leave it in the car.
• Read the ingredient list once before you start: it contains wheat fibre and konjac. If you have coeliac disease or a wheat allergy, ask your doctor first.
