How do you spot genuine Niang Jia drip chicken essence? 6 checks before you buy in Malaysia
Reviewed by Health Advisor Team
Short answer: To check genuine Niang Jia Drip Chicken Essence, start with the box: real stock comes in the sealed original gift box with a carry handle and a Malaysian label. Be careful with boxes that have no Malaysian label, or with loose pouches sold cheaply. They could be old, repacked or fake. Before you buy, choose a distributor who can show proof of authorisation. When it arrives, check the seal, expiry date, ingredients and halal logo.
Heads-up: Wellous has issued a notice asking customers not to buy on Shopee, Lazada, Carousell or other third-party platforms. Many listings there are fake, plenty of people only find out after buying, and some sellers pretend to be us.

What are the 6 checks before you buy?
1. Look for the Malaysian label first
Genuine boxes carry a Malaysian label. If there isn't one, don't open it. Contact the seller straight away.
2. Ask the seller for proof of authorisation
Just ask. An authorised distributor can show it and won't mind. The same goes for us: feel free to ask.
3. Is it sold loose or out of the box?
Loose pouches sold cheaply could be old, repacked or fake. Buy drip chicken essence as a whole, original box.
4. Is the gift box factory-sealed?
Check whether the seal has been opened or redone, and whether any pouch is damaged or leaking. Film yourself opening the parcel. It makes any problem easier to sort out.
5. Is the expiry date clear?
The shelf life is 2 years. The expiry date should be printed clearly, not scratched off or covered by a sticker. If it's close to expiry, ask before you order.
6. Match the ingredients and nutrition panel
There is only one ingredient: 100% Taiwanese native chicken essence. The nutrition panel should match the table above. If the list includes water, sugar or anything else added, don't drink it.
Why we don't recommend buying on Shopee, Lazada or Carousell
Listings on Shopee, Lazada or Carousell are mostly third-party resellers outside the authorised channel. The usual problems: unclear source, boxes split and repacked, unknown storage (Malaysia is hot, and stock left in a warehouse or a car can suffer), nobody responsible if something goes wrong, and no money-back guarantee.
Buy from an authorised distributor and you get the original gift box, advisor support and the 30-day money-back guarantee.
What should you do when it arrives?
- Check the box, label and seal before you open it.
- Keep the box at room temperature in a cool, dry place out of the sun. Don't leave it in the car.
- Read the ingredients once before drinking. If you are allergic to chicken or poultry, don't drink it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Niang Jia halal?
Yes. It is halal certified by THIDA (Taiwan Halal Integrity Development Association), a certifier JAKIM recognises, and the halal logo is on the Malaysian pack.
Loose pouches are much cheaper. Should I buy them?
We don't recommend it. Boxes with no Malaysian label, or loose pouches sold cheaply, could be old, repacked or fake, and there is no money-back guarantee.
Is it a good gift?
A good one. The original gift box has its own handle, the essence won 3 stars at the 2023 A.A. Taste Awards, and it is halal certified. It works for parents, in-laws, teachers, a friend in confinement or a client.
If I buy from you, how do I know it's genuine?
We are an authorised distributor. Every box ships as the sealed original gift box with a Malaysian label. Not happy? You get a full refund within 30 days.
